Self Evaluation - 2024
Working as a TAC engineer, encourages me to work-on, test-on and learn different technical
areas in LEARN while with the responsibility for providing the technical assistance for
LEARN member institutes. Maintaining LIAF(LEARN Identity Access Federation),
maintaining IaMI (Identity Access Management Infrastructure), Events Management
systems, Eduroam and TAC is being done.
I was able to support for APAN56 and present updates on LIAF for APAN56 which was
hosted by LEARN and recorded video sessions were uploaded to LEARN official Youtube
channel and APAN57 as a fellow, January 2024 behalf of LEARN. I was able to be an
instructor in Network Monitoring Workshop in LKNOG8 where manual creation/testing were
done for librenms, icinga, basic linux and supported participants on troubleshooting the issues
while implementation and hands-on lab exercises.
As LEARN is sharing knowledge with workshops for LEARN member institutes, I was able
to get more experience while engaging with workshops. Registrations were handled for
workshop on containerization (Docker and Kubernetes) and NOC Meeting. The TAC updates
were presented at NOC meeting and workshop report was created and supported participants
for lab sessions. As a LEARN staff member, support is given on registration online for
participants and participated the workshop on Network security by APNIC with collaboration
with LEARN. Support for registration for AIDE workshop was given and participated the
workshop as a participant. Manuals were created and tested for the workshop on Campus wifi
and Eduroam as an instructor and workshop report was written.
In written guidance were created and tested for implementation of OpenLDAP for ubuntu 24,
IRS(Eduroam) for Ubuntu 22 and Ubuntu 24, Eduroam-tools for Ubuntu 22, Federation
Registry Installation Manual for Ubuntu 22 in the LEARN official Github Page where
LEARN shares the knowledge and the guidance for implementations with the LEARN
member institutes. The manual for shibboleth version 5 – Identity Peroviedr is being created
and will be released once the implementation, testing and the manual is completed.
Event Management system was upgraded where the LEARN event registrations are handled.
Also, Eduid – Identity Provider, Eduid – LDAP which are mainly use for login to Office365
services and other R&S service, and IRS for Eduid (For Eduroam), IRS for University of
Peradeniya were installed with latest versions and have been supporting institutes on
implementing IRS and troubleshooting. National Roaming servers (NRS - Eduroam) were
upgraded with Freeradius 3.2 and new Eduroam-admin, Eduroam-monitoring, Eduroam-
metrics for LEARN were installed with latest versions. LIAF and Eduroam - LEARN
websites were migrated to new servers. Support is being given to associate engineer to
document the guidance for Moodle SSO enabling with the supervision of Senior network and
systems manager.
While improving the technical skills, soft skills have been improved while engaging in team
working in office environment, interacting with professionals in LEARN member institutes
and professionals from the workshops from different cultures, countries, online conferences,
discussions and working groups. By presenting the updates on Federation, LIAF in task force
meetings, APAN and LKNOG have been an opportunity to me to interact with local and
foreign teams.
I am presenting deputy contact person, security contact person in eduGAIN for LEARN and
also got an opportunity to sign the eduGAIN declaration digitally behalf of LEARN.
Working as an instructor and a moderator for workshops have been helping to mature myself
to handle the situations and interact with people. Also having the responsibilities has changed
me to more matured person than the person I was back in a year ago.
Currently I am following MSc in Cyber Security in Staffordshire University and also,
following a Kubernetes basics course to get familiar with the technology. Apart for technical
backgrounds, I have been attending a pottery workshop, paper recycling and blogging as
leisure activities.
